Sunday July 18
Opening day today started off a little rainy, we hoped the rain would pause during drop off but we were not so lucky. Everyone was able to take their swim check since there was no threat of thunder or lightening, then we had meetings in our sections to talk about expectations of respect in the cabin areas. We came up top after that to meet all the staff and hear about what focus areas they were leading. We had a chance to pick our focus areas for the first week, chat with Jon about covid protocols and emergency plans, and get a preview of the dining hall functionality for this summer. We ate dinner in the dining hall at tables with our cabins, Cecil’s famous spaghetti and meatballs! There was super tasty garlic bread too. After that, we had an opening ceremony for this sessions team comp, the Greecey Cup. Campers were sorted into teams named after the ancient Greek city states; Athens, Sparta, Corinth, and Thebes. Then we had a nice fire as a whole camp and ended the night in a big circle singing our closing song. Sometimes sleeping in a new environment is a little tricky on the first night, but our counselors understand this and are really prepared to make everyone feel safe and comfortable. We are staying warm, dry, and happy!
