Monday June 21
Today was our first FULL day and it definitely felt like it! We woke up and some of us did roller bears/polar bears before breakfast. Cecil made maple scones and scrambled eggs with homefries for breakfast and it was so good! This was the first day of our AM and PM focus areas and choosing our own electives. It was a little confusing the first day trying to remember where to go next but everyone made it to their activities and tomorrow will be easier now that we know the routine. Lunch today was burritos, green salad, pasta salad, fruit salad, and oatmeal cookies. During rest hour we had the choice to hang out in our cabin sections, or play lawn games in the backyard, or chit chat and chill on the theatre porch. Some of the electives offered today were SUP (stand up paddleboarding), archery, wild strawberry picking, sandcastles, and a paint-and-sip class. We had some scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon but our counselors had bins of stuff we could play with indoors while it passed over. All in all, it was only about 45 minutes of thunder watch and we all had fun playing cards, making bracelets, and other indoor activities. Dinner was BBQ Tofu with potatoes and asparagus. It was so tasty a lot of campers didn’t even notice that we had ‘Meatless Monday’ today, to reduce our environmental impact and to appreciate a variety of foods. Today we also did our covid swabs (for those of us that are unvaccinated). It was just a quick q-tip we put into our own noses, and we expect to get the results in the next 24-48 hours. Our evening activity was the Amazing Race where we got to complete challenges all over camp with out cabins to earn points. Belvidere was the cabin with the highest points, they completed 9 our of the 10 challenges. Tonight we will hang out with our cabins while some distant thunder passes by us, and probably fall right asleep! Days at camp are long and tiring and really fun.
