Sunday June 20
What a very exciting first day of camp! Here at HP we have been looking forward to this day since the beginning of 2020- the day our camp is full of kids again! Our staff spent the morning making welcome signs, taking care of some final cleaning, and preparing camp for arrival. We tested out our first all camp drive-through drop off system which worked really well! SO many campers this week brought their own mountain bikes. We all went through a waterfront orientation with Thayer and took our swim checks, then went through some all-around-camp rotations to see more of camp and understand how things work. We visited the dining hall to learn about how we will stay spaced apart while we eat, we talked with Jon about respect and general camp expectations, and we signed up for our weekly focus areas with CC. For dinner we had spaghetti and meatballs made by our incredible Chef Cecil. After dinner we got to choose our elective activities for tomorrow. Our evening activity was Human Spoons, where we worked together with our cabins to complete a lot of wacky tasks and challenges. It was a really fun way to be together and break the ice a little bit for people that may have been a little nervous or shy. Tonight we will have campfires in our cabin sections and get to know our new friends even more. Sometimes sleeping in a new environment is a little tricky on the first night, but our counselors understand this and are really prepared to make everyone feel safe and comfortable. We are hot and tired but staying hydrated and happy!
