Monday, July 29
On days like today, it is impossible to forget, even for a second, how magical of a place camp truly is.
It is the first full day of Bayley Hazen, and the beaming smiles of our campers are already reflecting the bright shine of the summer sun over our green hills! The weather is beautiful today—exactly the kind of weather one hopes for and expects from late July, and we are making sure everyone on camp is staying hydrated and sun-protected in the heat.
Our day began with breakfast, where we all sat family-style with our cabins and shared a delicious combination of eggs, toast, and bacon over laughter and conversation. Later, for lunch, we enjoyed an HP classic: homemade mac and cheese with peas and sweet potatoes!
Our campers all took their swim tests today, and are excited to keep cool at the waterfront in the coming weeks, when opportunities for free swim and water games will continue to be plentiful! Daily elective activities also began today, and campers spread all around Hosmer Point to enjoy activities such as archery, flower crown making, stand-up-paddle-boarding, playing soccer, and hunting for four-leaf clovers.
Soon, the camp will gather all together again for a family style dinner of tofu, rice, and vegetables—including tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, and beets grown from our own garden! The day will end with one of the most beloved and highly anticipated evening activities at camp: stones—an energetic field game in which all campers can work together to bring glory to their team (and smiles to each other’s faces!). Campers will also have to option to take time to rest in the chill-out-zone, where they will be able to create creative posters and use them to cheer their teammates on! It is clear from the joyful energy that radiated around camp today that great things are in store for Bayley Hazen this summer. And to think… this is only the start!
