Monday July 26
Last night we got a LOT of rain, and it was so loud many campers and counselors woke up in the middle of the night. This morning the sun was orange, which we have learned means smoke is hanging over us from wildfires elsewhere in North America. We had delicious pancakes and maple scones for breakfast with sausage and vegetarian sausage. AM focus areas and electives were a little bit damp but still fun. Beginner mountain biking explored some of camps newer land, and the arts and crafts focus completed some gorgeous centerpieces for our thanksgiving dinner on Thursday. The VIP group had some Jon games, some SUP jousting at the waterfront, and some low ropes course. Some of the other fun electives today were planned by the CITs like card games, drawing mad libs, birch bark watercolor, and yoga. For lunch we had grilled cheese, pasta salad, green salad, and blueberry squares. In the PM focus areas, Puzzle focus area completed two jigsaw puzzles, HP idol rehearsed some songs and named their band “The Resentful Living”. Some hit electives in the afternoon were bike park, waterfront games, sailing, and of course Hard Core which is an ongoing elective for the rest of the session. The VIPs had some time in the theatre to get goofy and make a ‘movie’ together, and then open waterfront time! There was a spontaneous clap of thunder during cabin time and a sudden downpour so we went to indoor locations for about 45 minutes until that passed. For our evening activity we had country night! We all listened to country music and played yard games like corn hole. We also pulled the tractor with a huge rope to prove our immense strength. The VIPs had some country night activities too, played sports on the upper field, and had a fire together at the waterfront fire pit. The rest of the camp met between the bay and the point to honor the anniversary of a fatal fire that occurred on this land in 1942. We lit candles and had a moment of silence in honor of the two young girls who passed away in that fire long ago. We went to our cabin sections and sang some songs and told stories around a campfire before bed.
