The First day of the Bayley Hazen session was a beautiful mid-summer Vermont day! Parents and campers alike had been waiting all summer to come and begin a magic two weeks at Hosmer Point. Hugs, smiles, and even a few tears from parents graced our upper fields as cars drove away and we began our day. We moved into our cabins, got to know each other, and had a snack. We did an all camp welcome with puffy clouds, a nice breeze, and blue skies welcoming us. Next we did an all camp scavenger hunt/orientation called check point challenge. Dinner of course, was spaghetti and meatballs and a huge salad bar featuring lots of veggies from our gardens. After dinner we had our opening ceremony where new campers and staff were welcomed on to their new teams. This session is the compass cup, and folks are sorted onto the four cardinal directions for teams. The teams performed their chants as a beautiful almost full moon rose up from the East. Friendly competitions will be held all week with one team coming out the winner. The cooler weather helped keep most bugs at bay as we walked down to the cabin sections and small campfires before heading to bed. Loons, bard owls sang us, and even some jazzy trumpet sang us to sleep as we zipped up our bags and tucked in for a good night’s sleep.
