We're off to a strong start for our Black River '24 session! We began the day with light rain showers on our roofs which always sounds so nice. Just before our day really began, the skies parted ways. There are strong relationships rekindling and new friendships forming all over on our green hill over the past 24 hours. It's a beautiful thing to witness over the years!
For our first full day of camp, we are getting into the groove by conducting swim tests, and choosing between various electives of different intensity levels. Some up at'em options were archery, soccer, and gaga ball. Other campers eased into the day with cloud watching, chalk art, fairy houses and silent reading. For the afternoon, camp favorites of dibble dabble and drip drip drop filled up fast! Spelling bee, stand up paddle boarding and meditation were also well attended options.
We got to fill our bellies thanks to our wonderful and courageous kitchen staff! Our lunch consisted of various mac and cheese options to fulfill all dietary needs, peas and sweet potato fries. They are all dedicated to fueling our bodies with incredibly wholesome foods. It's Monday, which means 'meatless Monday'! We will be having wonderfully seasoned and perfectly cooked maple sriracha tofu, broccoli, jasmine rice with tamari sauce. Our salad bar and meals are looking a lot more colorful these days thanks to our farm and garden! We have edible flowers gracing our meals, which even if campers choose to not eat them, they're a treat for the eye!
Our first evening activity of the session is Stones! It's a camp favorite that is a great kick-off to sessions. Stones is an extreme capture the flag game. We'll have some more rain showers this evening but more sun is coming our way tomorrow. One new aspect I've noticed around camp is the crickets have really begun their evening choir!
